The Norwegian midfielder has been a pivotal part of the Canaries Premier League survival quest and has established himself as a crucial component in Daniel Farke’s starting XI.

City are rooted to the foot of the division with nine games remaining, and Tettey believes the season must be completed regardless of how long it takes and isn’t thinking about a situation where the season gets declared as null and void.

“It’s not a scenario I’m thinking about, because it’s not really very fair. In football, you are placed where you are because of the way you’ve performed.

“You’re going to play your way out of the situation, not get help from a bad thing. For the fans and the club, it would be very good, but it’s not fair.”

The governing bodies in English football ruled that all footballing activity would be suspended until April 30 amid the coronavirus pandemic which is having a unprecedented effect on contemporary society.

However, if the Premier League does opt to conclude the season and begin again in August, Tettey believes that Liverpool should still be awarded their first title in 30 years.

“It’s the same talk that Liverpool should not become champions. They lead by 25 points. Should the league be called off, just give them the trophy. It must be fair.

“If they have to play the matches for many months, and we stay until August or September, then we just have to do it, because it’s fair to end this season.

“When the health authorities say we are allowed to play, then we have to play as fast as possible. I’m not a doctor, but as it goes now, it’s going to last a little while if suddenly there’s no vaccine available.

“There are many scenarios, but I think we should play as fast as possible. UEFA will have all matches finished in June at the latest. I think they should try to stick to that, although it can be difficult.”

Prior to the postponement, the Canaries did possess a degree of momentum after beating Tottenham Hotspur on penalties and recording victory against high-flying Leicester City at Carrow Road.

“We have felt many times that we could reduce the gap. Sometimes there have only been four points, but then we suddenly lose a match and are left six to seven points behind,” the midfielder told TV2.

“We have matches left against Brighton, Burnley, Southampton… These are the teams we feel we can pick some points from. All teams with momentum must be reset. When it starts again, it’s about who can hit the ground right away.”

City’s first FA Cup quarter-final in 28 years was also suspended, with Manchester United the opponents at Carrow Road.

Tettey admits the players are relishing the prospect of such a massive occasion at Carrow Road.

“We’re really looking forward to that fight. It’s a big break from the league, and we’re only one match away from Wembley.

“For the fans it would be amazing. They would have filled their 45,000 seats, because that’s what Norwich fans are, amazing.”
